An Abundance of Megans (and Muppets too!)

(Much is owed to John Green for the post title, and Suzi for my awareness of John Green.)

Dear St. Patrick's Day,
As I do every year, I made up my mind not to acknowledge you. Then I realized it isn't your fault that alcoholic morons swathed in unattractive green garb have co-opted you. It could happen to the best of us which Tina Fey's Liz Lemon demonstrates in the clip below from this week's 30 Rock (bonus points for the Ira Glass cameo in the beginning. #This American Life):

Hey, Megan!

And in the name of patron saints and throwback Muppetty goodness (via Mental Floss):

Whatchu Talkin Bout Willis? "Real Housewives of Atlanta" Edition

Dying is as much a part of life as being born. - Phaedra Parks of The Real Housewives of Atlanta has a Yogi Berra moment while discussing the funeral home business. Parks, an attorney, has been considering a career change this season. While not great news for the dead, it's been a major win for viewers and documented comedic endeavors alike.

4 Million Strong and Growing - The World's Largest Classroom

Yes, he Kahn.

I had never heard of this man, but Bill Gates has and he's helping Salman Kahn revolutionize the way kids learn. If Kahn has his way what we now know as "homework" will be a thing of the past.

Damn you, 60 Minutes! You've blown my mind yet again! Watch:

Rosie Subs on "Piers Morgan Tonight" w/ Guest Joel McHale, Saves Us from Another Night of Piers Morgan

It's nice when a TV personality with a generous head that you're a fan of guest hosts for another TV personality with a big head that you think is a tool.

That's exactly what's happening tonight on CNN at 9pm EST when Rosie O'Donnell subs for Sir Toolbox aka Piers Morgan.  Rosie will interview Joel McHale, yes that Joel McHale of The Soup and Community (it's back tonight! woohoo!) greatness. I'm very curious to see how Rosie's earnestness and Joel's dryness mix. Aren't you? She'll also talk to Anjelica Huston who is really the only consistently likable character on Smash (and who will always have a special place in my heart because she's one of Wes Anderson's regular players).

And should any of you be on the fence about Morgan's toolishness, see "Piers". He's a grown man with a plural noun for a first name. Come on.

DVR Bait: "Nightline" Goes Backstage with "Mad Men"

Correspondent Chris Connelly gets a tour of the Mad Men set from Matthew Weiner. I love that Connelly is a complete fanboy and Weiner's reaction when he realizes this. Tonight, 11:35pm EST on ABC.

Money quote: Weiner - "My personal belief is that Peggy is a bit of a slob."

"Community" To Live on in Syndicated Infamy

From Variety:
Comedy Central has acquired off-net rights to NBC's "Community" and will begin airing episodes from its first three seasons in fall 2013.
"Within the chaos of the current media landscape, we are fortunate that we live in a timeline where 'Community' comes to Comedy Central," said Comedy Central EVP of program strategy and multiplatform programming David Bernath. "Our staff is celebrating with a game of paintball in the offices today."
We're only hours away from new episodes of Greendale study group dysfunction. Bring your felt goatees, suckas. Judging from the trailer below, it's about to get dastardly.

Here are 9 Things I Observed During Oprah's Interview with Bobbi Kristina and the Houston Family

Since I'm a day two days late with this I'm sheepishly posting a few of my takeaways from Oprah's "interview" with Bobbi Kristina Brown and Pat and Gary Houston. Those of you who know me personally are flabbergasted I'm sure at my uncharacteristic tardiness.

Matt Weiner Asks Television Critics to Do Him a Solid and STFU

When critics received their Mad Men Season 5 premiere screeners there was the following diss note attached. (HT:  PopCultureBrain)
I know you are aware how strongly I feel that the viewers are entitled to have the same experience you just had. My goal every season is first and foremost to entertain the audience, and I know that this is best accomplished when key storylines are not revealed in advance. I am asking you to please join with me to ensure this enjoyment by not revealing any of these answers or other issues. ... I truly look forward to your spoiler-free thoughts and insights.
For those of you allergic to paragraphs it reads essentially, "Fall back, son!"

A little history of Matt Weiner's love of spoiler happy critics here. Can we get Weiner to write a note to whoever's in charge of movie trailers these days? For the love of Don LaFontaine something must be done!

Thankfully, College Humor is doing their part with this thoughtful PSA (via Flavorwire):

Theme Song Throwback

Hooray for the return of the Theme Song Throwback! I spoke to a woman named Loni on the phone at work today. When's the last time you heard that name, Tellyphiles? Oh wait, I know:

Oprah's Big Get: Waiting on the Bobbi Kristina Interview

Photo Creditt: OWN
Appointment viewing tonight. Oprah interviews Whitney's daughter Bobby Kristina for Oprah's Next Chapter at 9pm EST.

They're reairing O's interview with Whitney now so that it directly precedes. An understandable but no less icky programming choice. If this interview gets the eyeballs everyone's thinking it will it could mean The Mighty O's struggling network finally ends up on viewers' radar. Whitney's little girl could prove to be OWN's saving grace.

I'm not into recaps but I'm thinking there'll be a post tomorrow with the moments I was struck by.

"The Melissa Harris Perry Show" and the Awesomeness of Her Hip Hop Segment

There were a handful of reasons why I wished I was a more ardent fan of Melissa Harris Perry, the MSNBC commentator turned host of her own eponymous weekend talk show:
