Miss California Tells Perez Hilton He Can't Get Married

Flipping through channels during the first commercial break of Fox's "Sit Down, Shut Up" premiere and inadvertently channel surfed into a big pile of awkward. Don't you just love it when that happens?

The awkward in question came during the Q&A segment of the Miss USA pageant. No surpise there, huh, Miss Teen South Carolina? Anygay, Perez Hilton was a pageant judge and the openly-gay uberblogger asked Miss California to share her thoughts on Vermont's recent legalization of gay marriage. First she said something about how some people want same sex marriage and other people want "opposite marriage"--umm yeah, incomprehensible but not yet intolerant.

That would come in the next breath. Miss California let her bigot shine as bright as the California sunshine saying she'd been raised in a household where marriage was between a man and a woman, "no offense"--and she believes that's how it should stay. The crowd applauded reacted loudly and Miss California triumphantly strode back to her assigned spot on stage.

I'm not the only fan of incredibly uncomfortable television moments. The director kept the camera on Perez as his face acquired a politely pissed look that said, "you're not getting my vote, bitch."

I can't wait to see what he draws on her face tomorrow.

UPDATE: It's already on YouTube. Not best quality but it'll do!

  1. How rediculous. God forbid anyone should have an opinion that goes against Perez Hilton. He asked the question - he should have been prepared for her to give HER opinion...

  2. Anonymous bigot above. Dude, Iowa. IOWA legalized it. Time marches on. Stop being a f**king bigot.

  6. Sad that her family is teaching her to be a bigot at such a young age. Now, is she going to use her platform to spread in-equality? It goes beyond opinion when you enter equal rights issues. Bigot.

  7. I wouldn't have agreed with her anymore but at least she wouldn't have come across as such a Palinesque small bus rider if she could have managed an articulate response.

And it wasn't just Prejean (who by the way wants to be a special ed teacher. leaving it alone. too easy). They were all equally incoherent, throwing prepositions in willy nilly with a deer in the head lights look that made it clear they were praying that the nonsensical string of words coming out of their mouths would make sense to someone, anyone, even, like, you know, the homos.

  8. to offend the huge portion of the united states that is either gay or supportive of gay rights with an inarticulate answer like that is just idiotic. you are running for a title that entails you to represent an entire country!

she was the obvious favorite, and in more of a position to win than miss north carolina and Perez practically HANDED HER a platform to talk about this country's freedom of choice, and how no matter her opinion or anyone elses, the beauty is that we and all the states have the right to make our own decisions. instead, she flounders and all she can spew is how "no offense" but marriage should be between a man and a woman...?

  9. That dickhead Perez shouldn't even be in these shows.
The girl didn't give him the answer he wanted and the 'Boo Hoo Hoo, I ain't voting for you'
Next thing you know, he'll start a vendetta against her as if she was the next Lily Allen.
People have the right to have a different opinion, and Perez is just a child who was given too much power by celebrity starved nobodies

  10. i think she has the right to her own opinion theres nothing bigot about it. that is her upbringing, that is why she said in HER opinion, she didnt say "hey all of you you must believe that marriage is just between man and a woman" she didnt say that right. so for those who belive in gay marriage should not be offended.becauseif its the other way around say for example a miss usa judge who dont belive in same sex marriage ask a contestant same question and the contestant answers that she believe in gay marriage, well that judge should not feel offended either nor the people who dont believe in same sex marriage.Let us respect each others opinion , let us live our lives the way we want it to be ,as long as our actions does not harm, kill others or destroys properties

  11. She has a right to her opinion. I personally don't think that the act of "marriage" should dictate what sexes are allowed to marry. Marrying is about love and commitment between People. it should not exclude any gender combination, race, creed or color. But...Miss California has a right to her opinion. This is America dammit! Mr. Perez Hilton wanted a certain answer, but she sheer fact of asking a question makes it implicit that you should expect an answer either way! Also Perez has a right to not vote for her due to her views not being aligned with what he considers to be a valid and "good" candidate for Miss USA. He was given the post as judge after all.

  12. Why are you guys hating on her? It's her opinion. You guys are just as bad as those people who have bad opinions against gay people. Having said that, I too believe that a marriage is between a man and a woman. Even many democrats believe this. I mean, you guys want everything that man/woman couple have? You want to be able to give birth too? Anyways, I don't think gay marriages will truly ever be accepted unless majority of people become gay. Too bad gay people can't make more people gay since everyone knows people are born gay...right? Like those women who turn gay because they have had too many bad experiences with men.

  13. By the way, many gay people love to use "LOVE" as a reason to their arguments. Like, as long as they love each other, that's all that matters. How do you feel about people who are inlove with underage kids (and vice versa)? Or how about a man who loves his pet goat or horse? Should these people be able to legally marry? Does "love" make it right?

  14. I guess you're not allowed to be Miss USA if you're a Christian. I hope Miss California sues since she only lost due to Hilton's anti-Christian bigotry.

  15. Wow. It seems like you bigots get more and more desperate as gay marriage is legalized in more and more states. It is inevitable, it will become a FEDERAL right, and all you assholes are gonna cry. It makes me smile. After the way hetero couples have screwed up marriage, with divorce rates as they are, its funny that bigots get so upset that other people should have the same rights. I am heterosexual, and I refuse to get married until it is not a discriminatory practice. And, I love my married same sex friends, their amazing love for each other, and their wonderful families.

  16. Equal rights aren't a matter of opinion. It's like none of you have even seen "Milk". Did James Franco suffer through kissing Sean Penn for naught? Come on!

  17. Was Perez assigned to Miss California to ask her a question - why didn't he ask another finalist the same question? A bit confused here. Was it just 'bad luck' that Miss California was asked that specific question?

  18. I was gonna guess she was from SD (the only city out of all the CA cities that voted yes on 8) SD is way behind.

  20. Perez Hilton made an awfully quick transition from respectable pageant judge to vindictive media beast

  21. My husband said something that caused me to stop and think. He asked why a gay man was judging a beauty pageant for women? I told him that women were also judges. He responded by saying that women still see other women as beautiful, but women are not beautiful to gay men, and perhaps they should only be judging Mr. Body Beautiful contests. Just a thought.
